What are you waiting for?

So many people delay starting a new project or embarking on a new journey until the timing is right. But what exactly are you waiting to see before you'll take the present moment as the "right time"?
.
.
.
In this edition of #MotivationMonday, Carissa McAtee of @remedydesignshop offers her insights to anyone thinking about embarking on their journey as an artist. Her advice? Don't wait around for the "right time." There will never be a right time. Just get out there and start doing your art whenever and however much as you can.

Carissa creates original, handcrafted jewelry pieces inspired by the bright and colorful objects we find in nature. #ThrowbackThursday #TBT A #throwback to some of t #ThrowbackThursday #TBT

A #throwback to some of the fun, all-ages arts activities on-ground at Austin Arts Fair last Fall. Kids and families enjoyed creating art on their own through hands-on activities and workshops led by local artists.

Did you know that Austin Arts Fair includes free all-ages arts activities, workshops, and live demos as part of its programming throughout the day? One of the objectives behind Austin Arts Fair is to get more families and community members to participate in the arts through fun and memorable acts of creation.

We encourage broader engagement in the arts by providing these and other activities and programs free of charge to make the arts more easily accessible to our whole community.

What fun activities await you at Austin Arts Fair coming up on May 9th? Stay updated by following us here and on our website at www.austinartsfair.com.

#WednesdayWisdom If you want to make a living as #WednesdayWisdom

If you want to make a living as an artist, it's important to learn how to strike that balance between being true to yourself as an artist and giving the public something they'd want to buy.

In today's edition of #WisdomWednesday, David Bergeron of @bergeronwoodworks offers his take on how to strike this balance. His advice? Be flexible. Don't be overly rigid in your commitment to your style or persona as an artist. Learn how to make it work with reception and feedback from buyers and the public.

David creates beautiful home decor and furniture items from recycled and repurposed wooden items, with a mission to keep these items out of our landfills. His work is unique because he leaves the original paint and/ or stain on the wood pieces, rather than sanding it off, to preserve a bit of the wood's history and story within their new life as a work of art.

Want to hear more insights and words of wisdom from artists like David? Follow us here and join our new FB group "Austin Arts Stories" for access to more interviews and exclusive footage of local artists and arts entrepreneurs.

#TuesdayTestimonial One of the objectives behind #TuesdayTestimonial

One of the objectives behind Austin Arts Fair is to provide a platform for local artists to be able to interact with a community of local arts enthusiasts, potential customers, and likeminded fellow creators. The show is a great networking opportunity as much as it is a sales platform.

In this edition of #TestimonyTuesday, Sheyna Webster of @sheynamakes talks about her favorite part of participating in Austin Arts Fair last Fall. She enjoyed the opportunity to talk shop and network with other local artists and makers.

Sheyna loves to create fun, home goods, including embroidery, accessories, stickers, pins, and prints, that combine a bit of snark and charm with relatable social themes and political causes. We're happy to have her join us again at the Spring edition of Austin Arts Fair.

What other artists will be participating in the upcoming Austin Arts Fair on May 9th? The big announcement is coming soon! Stay updated by following us here and on our website at www.austinartsfair.com.

#MondayMotivation Sometimes we let our own precon #MondayMotivation

Sometimes we let our own preconceived notions get in the way of our success. We have expectations about what it looks like to pursue our passion as a career. And when the reality doesn't live up to it, we put it on hold until when we think we'll be in a better position to pursue it full time.

It's an "All or Nothing" mentality. And so many gifted artists let it stop them from working their craft as a side gig.

In this episode of #MotivationMonday Kate of @katefitzpatrickart talks about how pursing art as a career is not necessarily an all or nothing endeavor. It's okay to work an unrelated job and pursue your art as a side gig until it becomes feasible to convert your passion to a fulltime career.

As Kate advises, get out there and work on your craft whenever you can...morning, noon, or night. And allow yourself time to build momentum gradually.

So what are you waiting for?

Kate is an illustrator, painter, and children's book illustrator who loves to create depictions of wildlife inspired by true animal stories. To hear more insights and words of motivation from creative entrepreneurs and artists like Kate, follow us here and join our new FB group "Austin Arts Stories." We'll continue posting short excerpts from artist interviews here, and we'll be sharing longer interviews, hosting exclusive watch parties, and creating special video compilations for the FB group.

So many gifted artists are unable to turn their ta So many gifted artists are unable to turn their talent into a viable source of income because they don't focus enough on the business side of things.

It might not be the most romantic portrayal of yourself as an artist...but pursuing art as a career means thinking of yourself as a small business owner.

In this edition of SmallBusinessSaturday, Lori of @loriruizwatercolor talks about how to approach turning your art into a financially viable endeavor. Her advice? Devote 80% of your time to the business side of things, and spend only 20% focusing on your artwork.

Lori creates Southwestern-inspired mixed media artwork that incorporates different types of paints and techniques, wooden panels, and sometimes even embroidery. To hear more insights from local artists like Lori, follow us here and join our FB group "Austin Arts Stories." We'll be posting short excerpts from artist interviews here and sharing longer clips and more exclusive footage on the FB group.
